Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day. When you’re traveling around the world, even more so. One of the best ways to mingle with the locals is to stop at a café and order what they do. Start your day like a local when getting to know your destinations and it sets the tone for the rest of your explorations.
Greece When in Greece, the breakfast spread includes platters of sweet pastries, an assortment of cheeses and plates of tomatoes and olives. But the most recognizably Greek breakfast cuisine is a healthy helping of yogurt drizzled with honey. You may find some places serve eggs and bacon for tourists, but the Greeks tend to keep the first meal of the day light.
Russia The Russians often skip breakfast, but if you want to take your time waking up in the morning, you can opt for a helping of kasha, a porridge made from various grains. Over the weekends, the locals might likely breakfast with a serving of bliny, a crepe-like pastry covered in jam or sweet, condensed milk. You may also opt for syrniki, cottage cheese dumplings. Many of these breakfast foods are also popular in Ukraine.
Turkey The traditional Turkish breakfast kahvalti makes getting up early in the morning on vacation well worth it. The delectable spread consists of spicy Turkish sausage, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, jams and marmalades, creamy cheeses and honey. If that’s not enough, you can sample menemen, skillet-cooked eggs, along with Turkey’s famous tea and coffee.

Spain Like many other European countries, Spain keeps breakfast sweet and simple. Spaniards like to take it easy in the mornings with a pastry of choice and a cup of coffee. For explorers with a real sweet tooth, churros with chocolate is the perfect meal. Just know that the churros in Spain don’t quite look like the carnival food that’s become popular in America. But they’re still just as tasty.
Argentina Argentinians eat breakfast a little later in the morning, so they keep things brief with a café con leche (coffee with milk) and a medialunas, a croissant-style pastry. If travelers really want to fit in with the locals, they can order a yerba maté, a highly caffeinated herbal tea, in lieu of the coffee. For those that want something sweeter than a medialunas, they can choose from an array of facturas, Argentinian baked goods.
