Svalbard
Wonders

Engage in Every Moment

Rugged yet peaceful coastlines make for invigorating hikes with your expedition team and fellow explorers, leading you to breathtaking views of picturesque fjords, glaciers and sharp peaks. There's a pioneering spirit that permeates the air as you and your group trek the same paths as explorers past in search of a deeper connection with nature. As you navigate remote waterways, take out your binoculars and look for walruses and seals lounging on nearby ice floes. Within the stillness on a shore landing, an Arctic fox may come across your path and pause to watch you and your fellow explorers in curiosity. Follow in the wake of great explorers who came before as you cross the 80th parallel at Moffen. Svalbard is vast, with landscapes that change from glacial to tundra, making each day a new adventure to be shared with everyone on your expedition. Let the majesty of meltwater rivers plunging over steep ice cliffs take your breath away.

Jul 24 Crossing N80° Moffen - Captain’s Choice

Crossing N80° Moffen - Captain’s Choice

Follow in the wake of great explorers like Francis Drake, Captain James Cook and Henry Hudson who attempted to cross the 80th parallel in search of a passageway that connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The N80° is the circle of latitude that is 80 degrees north of the Earth’s equatorial plane, in the Arctic, intersecting the Atlantic Ocean, Europe, Asia, the Arctic Ocean and North America. Just north of 80° after the point of the crossing you will come to Moffen, a small, low island north of the mouth of Wijdefjorden, on the northern coast of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard archipelago.
