Discover the quiet brilliance of Antarctica’s Secret Season on this immersive late-summer voyage. The days glow with soft, golden light that transforms icebergs into sculptures of fire and glass, while calm seas invite exploration across the Antarctic Peninsula. This is the height of whale season, when humpbacks and orcas put on mesmerizing displays amid the stillness. Penguin chicks shed their down and test the icy shallows, and seals stretch lazily across sunlit ice. With fewer ships on the horizon, you’ll feel a profound connection to the wilderness — every landing, every encounter, every moment steeped in the rare privilege of being among the last to witness Antarctica before winter’s return.

Expedition Leaders
Chad Burtt Expedition Leader
Chad’s deep connection to nature stems from a childhood spent in the wilds of South Africa. His fascination with polar exploration began in 1999 during an expedition to Antarctica for the filming of an IMAX re-creation of Shackleton’s legendary survival story. A former naval diver, he later trained as a commercially endorsed Ocean Master in the UK and spent a decade delivering yachts worldwide before returning to South Africa to study Project Management and Architectural Design. His passion for the polar regions never waned; balancing business and family life, he seized every opportunity to return to Antarctica, joining numerous private expeditions and even participating in the 2022 discovery of Shackleton’s lost ship, Endurance, which led to his first opportunity lecturing aboard a polar expedition vessel. Today, Chad’s interests focus on the interconnection between polar systems and global climate, and he now lives on South Africa’s East Coast, where he built a guest house sanctuary overlooking a serene coastal estuary.
