Beach Hopping Zakynthos

After the ancient ruins, Greek islands are best known for their paradise beaches. None more so than the island of Zakynthos, also called Zante. The natural beauty of the Ionian Sea coast calls to voyagers to explore and discover its secret coves and sunny shores. Check out some of Zakynthos’ most remote and adventurous beaches.

Shipwreck Beach
Washed up on the pristine white sands of Navagio Beach, better known as Shipwreck Beach, are the hulking, rusted remains of the former Panagiotis. There’s nothing like basking in the shade of the shipwreck on hot, summer days. Stretch out on the sand and revel in the mystery of what many believe to be a smuggler’s ship.

Porto Limnionas

This beach offers the best of both remote adventures and comfortable amenities. The rocky cove of Porto Limnionas gives beach bums the chance to stretch out on loungers with a cocktail in hand. Meanwhile, thrill seekers can walk the path down to the cliffs and caves where they can take a running jump straight into refreshing, blue water.

Laganás Bay
Zakynthos National Marine Park in Laganás Bay has miles of beach stretching far as the eye can see. Among the beaches are Gerakas and Dafni, the ideal spots to catch sight of loggerhead turtles. Laganás Bay is Zakynthos’ top resort, but it offers all the fun in the sun you could want from a Mediterranean vacation in Greece.

St. Nicholas Beach

St. Nicholas Beach has not remained Zakynthos’ best-kept secret for long, but it’s still a water sports aficionado’s paradise. From Jet skiing to scuba diving to parasailing, adventurers can get their adrenaline fix with a wild day at this beach. Those who prefer more low-key exploits can take a leisurely walk up the path to the little white chapel on the nearby cliff.

Agios Sostis Beach
Between the villages of Laganas and Porto Koukla lies the little island of Agios Sostis. This tiny island just 11 kilometers from Zakynthos offers a remote, picturesque sandy shore to spend a day playing in the water. The surrounding pine trees, small caves and unique rock formations make the landscape an explorer’s dream.

Marathonisi Islet
Near Turtle Island, one of the main attractions of Zakynthos, lies a tiny, unorganized beach along Marathonisi Islet. With nothing but a snack boat anchored right on the beach’s shore for food and drink, it’s a truly remote getaway for the wanderer that wants the feeling of roughing it.
