Atlas Ocean Voyages Doubles Capacity in Antarctica, Yacht-style Ship to Visit Europe In 2022-2023
Atlas Ocean Voyages has doubled the number of Antarctica expeditions for the 2022-2023 season with the addition of a second Polar Category C- and Ice Class 1B-certified vessel. World Traveller, which debuts November 21, is a sister-ship to World Navigator, which launched last year. The two will operate 25 cruises, ranging from 9 to 12 nights, with prices starting from $7,499 and the second guest sails free.
Expeditions to Antarctica are planned during the Austral summer, which is the best time to visit this remote and bucket-list destination. Scenic highlights of a visit to the White Continent include Deception Island, a volcanic caldera, where hearty souls have been known to swim in the steam-heated waters; spectacular Paradise Harbor, dotted with floating icebergs; majestic Neumayer Channel; and the gentoo rookery at Port Lockroy, crowned by soaring mountains.
The exact itinerary and landing sites for World Traveller will be determined by the ship’s captain in consultation with the expedition leader, based on ice conditions, weather and wildlife. “What is certain is that visitors to Antarctica will see breathtaking ice formations, plus penguins, seals, seabirds, and other wildlife,” said James Rodriguez, the line’s president and CEO.
From the White Continent, World Traveller repositions to Southern Europe. A 7-night cruise, round-trip from Las Palmas, showcases the Canary Islands, before beginning a series of 7- to 10-day voyages to many of the best-known resorts in the Mediterranean. Home ports include Seville, Lisbon, Barcelona, Nice and Civitavecchia – the ancient seaport for Rome.
In August, the ship crosses the north 66th parallel to offer multiple opportunities to see the Northern Lights, including three Arctic expeditions in Svalbard. Guests can marvel at majestic glaciers, fjordlands, and mountains, and observe a range of wildlife, including birds, whales, polar bears, reindeer, walrus, and the elusive arctic fox.
From the land of the Midnight Sun, World Traveller offers an Iceland circumnavigation before charting a southbound course via the British Isles, Ireland, France, and Spain to conclude her Europe season on October 16 in Lisbon.
Atlas Ocean Voyages’ stylish and intimate World Traveller and World Navigator carry up to 186 guests in Antarctica and offer every five-star comfort. During the voyage, guests learn from an Expedition Team comprised of naturalists, ornithologists, biologists, and scientists from other disciplines. Our plans call for up to two outings daily, where guests can see wildlife and ice formations up-close via Zodiac boats, specifically designed for exploration use. Guests may also join kayak excursions led by expert guides. With one field guide for every 20 people ashore, guests are assured a highly personalized learning experience.
