Apr 22 Luederitz, Namibia Arrive: 7:00AM Depart: 1:00PM

Luederitz, Namibia
Scenes of Bavaria are probably the last thing you expect to find in Africa, but Lüderitz in Namibia, founded as a German colony by Adolf Lüderitz, provides just that. Near the Lüderitz Peninsula you find whimsical flamingos as they feed amid pristine conditions of the beaches. Due to its location between desert and ocean, you find an eclectic mix of animals, from oryx and jackals to dolphins and whales. Venturing further into the desert you come across Kolmanskop, an abandoned mining town founded in the 20th century when miners found diamonds there. Today, the former mansions, post office and general store sit as a ghost town.

Apr 27 Luanda, Angola Arrive: 1:00PM

Luanda, Angola
Angola’s primary port, Luanda, exemplifies the country’s diverse history, from its native African roots to colonial influences of the Portuguese. Check out the Iron Palace, believed to be designed by Gustave Eiffel. Wherever you go, you’re likely to find the people gathered for dancing kizomba in the street, and you may even be asked to join. Luanda’s gastronomy owes its reputation to a rich combination of influences from Mozambican, Brazilian and Portuguese cuisine. Dig into a grilled Calulu or Mufete – fish served with generous portions of plantain, beans and sweet potato. Finish off your meal with a sweet treat of doce de ginguba, a peanut jam.
