Ouessant, France

Off the westernmost tip of France, Ouessant is a rugged island with extraordinary rock formations. The oldest lighthouse, Le Stiff, was built in 1695 by the great military architect Vauban and overlooks the entire island. From this vantage point, you can take incredible photographs of the waves crashing ashore. Ouessant has a deep religious heritage as evident in its main church, Saint-Pol-Aurélien and smaller chapels that dot the island, like those of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Voyage and Notre-Dame-de-Bonne-Espérance.
