FREE 3-NIGHT MACHU PICCHU

POST-CRUISE LAND PROGRAM NOVEMBER 12–15, 2022 | 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

FREE WHEN YOU BOOK A HORIZON DELUXE (E1) BALCONY ACCOMMODATION OR ABOVE,
$999 PER PERSON FOR ALL OTHER CATEGORIES

Your adventure continues on a post-cruise land journey with a comprehensive dive into Peru’s ancient Incan empire. Trek the iconic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu – one of the Seven Wonders of the World – and discover its secrets from multiple entrances. Explore from the Sacred Valley to the Andean village of the Ccorccor Community to the Moray Archaeological Site, where the ingenuity of Incan inventions will leave you in awe. Traverse wondrous ruins such as the archaeological site of Sacsayhuamán Fortress and the Qoricancha Temple (the Golden Temple) for in-depth explorations of indigenous culture.

DAY 1 | CUSCO & ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES – You’ll be met at the port and transferred to Lima’s airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to local restaurant Colcampata for lunch before being taken to the Sacsayhuaman and Tambomachay Archaeological Sites.

Visit the Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a colossal structure built from carved rocks joined with absolute accuracy. This astounding sample of Incan military architecture is undoubtedly the greatest architectonic work of the Tahuantinsuyo. In addition, it proves the great administrative capacity of the empire and its powerful logistic system, capable of mobilizing and organizing such a work. Upon the arrival of the Spaniards, its aspect changed, as the fortress was used as a hewn stone to build the colonial Cusco. From there, your visit takes you to Tambomachay and their water fountains.

Return to your hotel – the five-star luxury Palacio del Inka – for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 2 | MACHU PICCHU – Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before transferring to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu via the comfortable VISTADOME Train.

Arrive at the citadel of Machu Picchu itself. Unearthed for modernity by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Its architectural beauty, spectacular natural setting, and the energy that radiates from its enigmatic buildings will take your breath away. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Incas as you take a tour of the magical citadel led by a guide.

Your visit ends with lunch at Café Inkaterra before returning to the Aguas Calientes train station for a private transfer back to your hotel, where you will stay another night.

DAY 3 | MORAY ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITE & SACRED VALLEY – After breakfast, depart for the Moray Archaeological Site. Used as an agricultural testing ground, the site’s system of circular terraces descends 490 feet (150m) from where you will stand, serving as a perfect testament to the level of advancement achieved by the Incas, who excelled at building masterful constructions in harmony with nature.

From there, depart to the Salt Pans of Maras. Here you’ll see a still-operating salt mine, in use since Incan times. the stark white of the steeply descending salt pans juxtaposed against the green of the surrounding mountain slopes will fill you with awe. Depart to Huaypo Lagoon for a picnic lunch overlooking the Sacred Valley and its snow peaks.

Your next stop is the Ccorccor Community. As you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by the residents of this Andean village with music, dance and a lovely garland of flowers. You’ll feel right at home as you share memorable moments with the villagers, and you’re sure to have a great time learning the games played by the local children, including hoop rolling, spinning tops and the game the children call “plic-plac.”

Return to your hotel for dinner and one final overnight stay.

DAY 4 | CUSCO & QORICANCHA – Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before you go on a private visit to the city of Cusco. At the prearranged time, head for the San Blas neighborhood. Situated at the top of a hill, it offers fine views of the city. Its narrow streets provide the setting for an enjoyable walk that will continue across Cusco’s main square or Plaza de Armas. Continue with a visit to an Pedro, a market filled with local products, colors, and flavors.

From there, transfer to one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco, the Qoricancha Temple (the Golden Temple). Dedicated to the worship of the Sun God, its interior walls were said to have been covered in gold.

Afterward, indulge in a five-course lunch at MAP Café before transferring to the airport.

NOTE: Your post-cruise land immersion includes domestic flights between Lima and Cusco; professional, local English-speaking guides; transfers and excursions on private services; up to three glasses of wine or beer, water and infusions during all meals mentioned in the itinerary; entrance fee to Machu Picchu and bus ticket; and one accompanying Peruvian tour director traveling with the group.
